Our Story

How did we get here?

Jan 2022

Govan Volunteer Bank is created.

In January 2022, Govan Housing Association launched the Govan Volunteer Bank, coordinated by Carol Kearns. The GVB was comprised of individuals who were interested in volunteering in their local community, and out of this initiative the Govan Volunteer Bank Website was created.

The website provided a space for volunteers to register their interest in volunteering and for organisations to promote volunteering opportunities. Additionally, the website also had a space for promoting local events and activities, which, when registered on the site, would then be shared through a Facebook Page and with the Govan Housing Association’s partners.

March 2023

Govan Housing Association releases function of the GVB website.

At the beginning of March 2023, the Govan Volunteer Bank ceased its operation due to a funding decision. This meant that there was no longer a need for a website dedicated to it’s function, however, many people in the community had come to rely on it for promotion, or had begun to recognise it as somewhere they could find relevant information on what was happening in their area.

There was a clear need for this resource to continue on, in some manner.

April 2023

Thriving Places Govan receives funding to refresh and develop the website.

June 2023

Govan Volunteer Bank, now becomes Good About Govan.

Thriving Places Govan has been working within the area since 2017 developing how community groups, services and organisations work together to address local priorities.

When the GVB Website was in operation, Thriving Places Govan worked in partnership with them to create a monthly resource promoting events and activities happening within the area under TPG’s Initiative: Good About Govan.

When the GVB website ceased operation, the team at TPG made a funding bid to refresh and develop the website further, as they saw and understood the positive impact it had on the community In April 2023, that funding was granted.

During the development of the website, the decision was made to re-brand the site from the ‘Govan Volunteer Bank’ to ‘Good About Govan’. This would allow people to distinguish between the two resources, although their aims were similar.

Good About Govan, had already been in operation under Thriving Places Govan, and the hope was to provide a distinct and clear brand identity that linked that work to this new website, so that people could connect to it more immediately.
